It combines a pre-training assessment, a psychometric profile, in-person workshops, one-to-one or group coaching, on-the-job assignments, refreshers, master classes and a post-training assessment, so new managers build leadership competency at work rather than in a single classroom session.

01

Why a journey, not a one-off workshop

Managers carry the team’s experience of work. A structured journey gives new managers time to practise between sessions, get feedback and build habits, which a one-day workshop cannot do.

Managers account for at least 70% of the variance in employee engagement scores across business units.

Competencies this journey builds

01

Shifting from doing to leading

Letting go of the individual-contributor role, managing time for the team, and measuring success through others.

02

Delegation and clear briefs

Handing over work with a clear outcome, authority and check-in rhythm instead of doing it or micromanaging it.

03

Feedback and difficult conversations

Giving timely, specific feedback, handling underperformance early and leading former peers fairly.

04

One-to-ones and coaching

Running useful one-to-ones, asking before telling and growing people through the work itself.

05

Goals, priorities and team performance

Turning business goals into team priorities, tracking progress and running meetings that decide things.

06

Self-awareness and trust

Knowing one's own style and triggers, adapting to different people and building a team where people speak up.

05

Who this journey is for

  • Newly promoted team leads and managers in their first 18 months
  • High performers about to be promoted who need readiness before the move
  • Technical experts (engineers, analysts, sales specialists) now leading former peers
  • Frontline supervisors in operations, retail, manufacturing and service teams
  • Organisations building a consistent people-manager standard across locations
06

How impact is measured

Impact is measured at four levels: how participants rate the journey, what they learned (AssessAll pre and post scores), what they do differently at work (360-degree pulse, manager observations, evidence logs) and what changed for the business (engagement scores, attrition in their teams, time to productivity of new joiners, team goal attainment). Success measures are agreed with you before design.

Measures we can track

  • Change in AssessAll readiness score (pre vs post)
  • Team engagement or pulse scores
  • Regretted attrition in participants’ teams
  • Share of team goals met on time
  • Manager and team observations in the 360-degree pulse

Assessments used before and after (on AssessAll)

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How long is a first-time manager learning journey?

Usually 3 to 6 months. The 3-month Essentials version covers the core skills with two workshops and group coaching. The 6-month Complete version adds psychometrics, one-to-one coaching, monthly refreshers, master classes and a 360-degree pulse.

What is included in a first-time manager learning journey?

A pre-training assessment, a psychometric profile, in-person or live virtual workshops, coaching, on-the-job assignments, microlearning, refreshers, master classes and a post-training assessment. Bodhih customises the mix after a needs analysis.

How is it different from a two-day first-time manager workshop?

A workshop teaches the ideas once. A journey spaces learning over months, adds practice at work, coaching and manager involvement, and measures behaviour change before and after.

How do you measure the impact of a first-time manager program?

With AssessAll assessments before and after, a 360-degree pulse, evidence logs from work assignments and business measures you choose, such as team engagement, attrition or goal attainment.

Can the journey run virtually for distributed teams?

Yes. The workshops can run as live virtual labs, and coaching, refreshers and master classes work well online. Many GCC and IT clients use a blended version.

Is this the only format available?

No. This is one of two sample leadership journeys. Every journey is customised to your managers, industry, budget and timeline, and can be shorter or longer.
