01

Why facilitation has become a core workplace skill

Hybrid teams, cross-functional projects and constant change mean more work happens in workshops and group sessions. Many of those sessions are run by people who were never shown how.

Good facilitation turns a room of opinions into shared decisions and commitment. Bodhih's Train the Trainer program is ranked among the global top 7 in the Train the Trainer market by London-based research firm Technavio, and this program builds on that trainer-development experience.

How we deliver it

Practise every hour

Participants take turns facilitating short segments for their peers throughout the program, not just at the end.

Feedback from multiple angles

Each practice gets structured feedback from the facilitator, peers and, where possible, video review.

Real workshops as material

Participants design and rehearse a session they will actually run at work within the next month.

Customised with ADDIE

Bodhih shapes scenarios, techniques and depth to your organisation's meeting culture using the ADDIE model.

Tailored versions

For managers and team leads

Focuses on everyday meetings: planning, retrospectives, problem solving and team decision-making.

For trainers and L&D teams

Blends facilitation with experiential learning design, debriefing and energising techniques for training rooms.

For agile and change teams

07

How we measure impact

Impact of facilitation skills training is measured across Kirkpatrick Levels 1 to 3. Participants complete a self-assessment before and after, and a skills check can be run on AssessAll where relevant. Each person's final practice is scored against an observation rubric. At 30, 60 and 90 days, managers and session sponsors give short feedback on real workshops the participant has led, focusing on participation, decisions reached and follow-through.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What are facilitation skills?

Facilitation skills help a person guide a group to think, discuss and decide together without controlling the content. They include designing a session, asking good questions, listening and summarising, choosing group techniques, managing time and energy, handling conflict and helping the group reach clear outcomes. They matter for trainers, managers and anyone who leads meetings.

What is the difference between a trainer and a facilitator?

A trainer mainly helps people learn specific knowledge or skills, often with a set curriculum. A facilitator helps a group use its own knowledge to solve problems or make decisions, staying neutral on content. Strong trainers use facilitation techniques constantly, which is why this program suits both trainers and managers.

How do you handle dominant participants in a workshop?

Set participation norms at the start, then use structures that share airtime, such as silent writing, pairs before plenary and round-robins. If someone still dominates, acknowledge their input, then invite others directly. A private word at the break often works best. The program includes a role-play clinic on exactly these situations.

Can facilitation skills be learned online?

Yes. The live virtual format uses small cohorts, breakout practice and video feedback, so participants still facilitate real groups throughout. It also gives direct experience of virtual facilitation, which many people now need. For teams that mainly run in-person workshops, a blended option adds an in-person practice day.

Is there a certificate for facilitation skills training?

Participants who complete the practice rounds and a final assessed facilitation receive a Bodhih certificate of completion. The final assessment is scored against an observation rubric. For trainers who want a broader credential, this program works well as a step towards Bodhih's Train the Trainer or Master Trainer certification.

Who should attend facilitation skills training?

It suits trainers, managers, team leads, HR partners, agile coaches, project managers and change leaders who run group sessions. No prior facilitation experience is needed, but participants should expect to practise in front of peers. Senior leaders often join a shorter, customised version focused on strategy and leadership offsites.
