AI training for employees in India works when it is role-based, measured and short: a common floor for everyone (what the tools do, what to check, what never to paste), then deeper programs for the roles where AI changes the week's work (sales, HR, marketing, finance, managers), with a before-and-after measure on real tasks. Published 2026 costs run from about ₹1,200 to ₹12,000 per employee depending on format and customisation; a four-hour online essentials course is at the low end and a customised in-house program with assessments at the high end.
This guide sets out what to buy for whom, what it costs, how to measure it and how to compare providers, including where Bodhih fits and where it does not.
Why the demand exists (with sources)
- 85% of professionals in India use AI at work regularly; 26% feel prepared for it; 71% say they are left to work it out alone (Simplilearn, April 2026). Our summary.
- 78% of managers believe staff get adequate AI training; 56% of entry- and mid-level staff agree (Wharton/GBK, October 2026).
- 83% of HR and IT leaders call upskilling imperative; 34% have a formal programme (CompTIA, 2026).
- In the EU, Article 4 of the AI Act asks providers and deployers to ensure a sufficient level of AI literacy among staff; Indian GCCs and vendors serving EU clients are being asked for evidence.

What to teach, by audience
| Audience | What they need | Format that fits | Bodhih option |
|---|---|---|---|
| Everyone | The floor: what assistants can and cannot do, verification before anything leaves the team, data and confidentiality rules, writing a clear task instruction | 4 hours online or one in-house day | AI at Work Essentials (online, US$59); AI literacy training (in-house) |
| Managers | Which tasks to delegate to AI, do with AI, or keep human; reviewing AI drafts; team rules; measuring the gain | One day plus a 90-day plan | AI for leaders; Applied AI for First-Time Managers (online) |
| Sales, HR, marketing, finance | Role workflows: research and call prep, candidate screening, content and campaign analysis, variance explanations, with the role's own data | 2 days in-house or a 16-hour online Pathway | AI for sales teams, AI in HR; Applied AI Pathways for sales, HR, marketing, finance |
| Knowledge workers ready for agents | Specifying multi-step work for AI agents, setting checks, oversight, when to stop an agent | 16 hours online | Agentic AI for Business Professionals |
| Trainers and L&D | Designing with AI, AI in assessment, keeping judgement | 2 days | AI for trainers |
| Technical staff | Foundations to LLM engineering | 12 to 45 hours online, certified | AI/ML certification track, Levels 1 to 3 |
| Leadership and risk owners | Governance, policy, responsible use, vendor questions | Half day | Responsible AI training |
Bodhih does not offer vendor-certified technical courses (cloud or data-platform credentials); for those a catalogue provider or the vendor's own academy is the right choice.
The five formats and what they cost in 2026
| Format | Typical 2026 cost in India | Suits | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-paced online course with a credential | US$50 to US$300 per learner (Bodhih.org Pathways: US$59 for essentials, US$80 for a role Pathway, US$229 for agentic AI) | Company-wide floor; distributed teams | Completion drops without a manager nudge; choose courses with a diagnostic and a re-measure |
| Live virtual workshop | ₹25,000 to ₹1.25 lakh per day (KnowledgeHut range) | Role cohorts across cities | Shorter blocks; needs hands-on exercises with the team's own tools |
| In-house classroom day | ₹35,000 to ₹1.25 lakh per day; specialists ₹3,00,000+ (KnowledgeHut, BYLD ranges) | Managers and role teams; sensitive data | Customisation drives the price; ask what is built from your workflows |
| Blended journey (workshop + online Pathway + 90-day re-measure) | Sum of the above, less travel | Teams that must show a result | The follow-through is where the value is; budget for it |
| Per-employee packaged programs | ₹1,200 to ₹12,000 per employee (Build Fast with AI estimate, July 2026) | Large populations | Compare what "customised" means at each price point |

How to measure AI training
- Pick two recurring tasks per role (a weekly report, a customer reply, a first-draft proposal, a candidate shortlist).
- Measure time and quality for one week before training and one week after.
- For larger groups, run an assessed baseline per person: the AI Literacy Assessment and the prompt-writing work sample on AssessAll, repeated after 90 days.
- Report time saved, error rate and what the saved time was redeployed to. The free AI readiness check places a team in one of four stages in two minutes.
Providers to compare
Buyers in India usually shortlist a mix of: technology-first providers (Simplilearn, Great Learning, upGrad Enterprise, Coursera for Business) for certifications and technical depth; catalogue providers (Edstellar, NIIT) for breadth across topics; boutique AI consultancies for workflow-specific builds; and behavioural and management specialists such as Bodhih for manager, sales, HR and all-staff programs that pair an in-house workshop with an online Pathway and a measured result. Our neutral guides to corporate training companies in India and the Edstellar alternatives comparison cover the trade-offs.
A 12-point checklist for the RFP
- Which roles, which tasks, which tools (named) does the program cover?
- Is there a common floor for everyone before role depth?
- What is built from our workflows and data, and what is standard?
- How are data confidentiality and the company AI policy taught, not just mentioned?
- What does a learner produce in the session (a prompt library, a checklist, a redesigned task)?
- How is verification of AI output taught and practised?
- What is measured before and after, by whom, with what instrument?
- What happens in the 90 days after the session?
- Does it cover agentic, multi-step work for the roles that are ready?
- What credential does a learner get, and is it verifiable?
- Cost per participant per training day, including assessments; and the per-learner price of the online option.
- Who are the trainers, have they done the role's work, and can we meet them?
Frequently asked questions
How much does AI training for employees cost in India?
From about ₹1,200 to ₹12,000 per employee for packaged programs (Build Fast with AI, 2026), US$59 to US$229 per learner for Bodhih.org online Pathways, and ₹25,000 to ₹1.25 lakh per day for live or classroom delivery by experienced trainers (KnowledgeHut, 2026). A blended design costs more up front and is the only one that reliably shows a measured result.
Is AI literacy training mandatory in India?
No Indian statute requires it as of November 2026. The EU AI Act (Article 4) does for staff operating or using AI systems at providers and deployers, and many enterprise clients and auditors now ask Indian vendors and GCCs for evidence of AI literacy training. Bodhih's programs are training, not legal advice.
How long should AI training for employees be?
Four hours for the all-staff floor, one day for managers, two days or a 16-hour online Pathway for role depth, then 90 days of practice with a re-measure. Longer single events do not improve retention; follow-through does.
Should we train everyone or start with a few roles?
Give everyone the floor first, because unmanaged use is the main risk; then go deep in the two or three roles where AI changes the week's work. Use the free AI readiness check per team to decide which stage each is at.
Can AI training be delivered in regional languages?
Bodhih delivers in English and Hindi, with regional-language delivery on request for frontline and retail teams; see sales training in Hindi for the Hindi program format.
