Why product leadership is the scarce skill in 2026

India's SaaS firms and GCCs increasingly own products end to end, not just build to specification. That shift needs product leaders who can combine domain knowledge, technology and business judgement, and who can win the trust of engineering and headquarters alike.

AI tools now draft PRDs, summarise research and generate roadmap options in minutes. What they cannot do is choose between competing bets, align a sceptical trio or explain a hard no to a senior stakeholder. That is the work product leadership training strengthens.

A PwC India-FICCI study found 62% of GCCs cite the lack of professionals combining domain and technology expertise as their biggest constraint.

Sample training plan: 2-day hands-on design

This two-day workshop helps product managers step up from managing features to leading a product. Every participant brings their own product and roadmap. They write and peer-critique a vision, agree decision rights with an engineering and design lead, rebuild their roadmap around outcomes and practise saying 'not yet' to a big customer request. The capstone is a quarterly product review where they defend their bets to a panel playing leadership and headquarters. They leave with a 60-day product leadership plan.

Recommended: 2 days in person (09:30–17:30), or 5 × 3-hour live virtual sessions, plus a 60-day roadmap application. A sample design: every Bodhih program is customised after a short needs analysis.

How long is product leadership training?

The recommended design is two days in person, 09:30 to 17:30, followed by a 60-day roadmap application on the participant's own product. It also runs as five live virtual sessions of three hours each. New heads of product can add a session on building a product organisation.

What activities are included in product leadership training?

Participants test their vision in a gallery walk, sort decision-rights cards with an engineering and design trio, rebuild their own roadmap around outcomes, say 'not yet' to a sales head pushing a big-customer feature, and defend their bets in a leadership review panel with hidden agendas.

06

How we deliver it

Your roadmap on the table

Participants bring their real vision, roadmap and stakeholder map, and leave with improved versions they can use the following week.

Trio exercises

Where possible, engineering and design partners join selected sessions so the product trio practises alignment together.

Realistic stakeholder simulations

Facilitators play sales heads, CXOs and headquarters leaders who push for features, so participants rehearse evidence-based conversations.

Method-neutral approach

The program works with whichever product and agile methods your teams already use, focusing on the leadership layer above them.

07

Tailored versions

For SaaS product companies

Focus on product-led growth, customer success feedback, pricing conversations and balancing enterprise deals with platform strategy.

For GCC product teams

Adapted for teams moving from delivery to ownership, with headquarters alignment, global stakeholders and time-zone collaboration.

For new heads of product

Adds sessions on building a product organisation, hiring PMs and setting product operating rhythms.

08

How we measure impact

Using the ADDIE Evaluate stage, participants complete a pre and post assessment of influence, strategic thinking and decision-making competencies on AssessAll. Engineering and design partners can give a short pulse at the start and after 60 days. We review each participant's revised vision and roadmap with their manager, and track agreed indicators such as roadmap alignment, stakeholder satisfaction and the share of roadmap items with defined outcome measures.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is product leadership?

Product leadership is the ability to set direction for a product and bring people with you, even when they do not report to you. It means defining a clear vision, aligning engineering, design and business, making outcome-based decisions and developing other product managers. Product leadership training builds these skills alongside the methods PMs already know.

How do product managers lead without authority?

They build influence through clarity, evidence and relationships. A clear vision, shared goals with engineering and design, transparent decision-making and consistent follow-through all earn trust. Listening to each function's constraints matters too. The program uses role-plays and simulations so participants can practise these conversations realistically.

What is an outcome-based roadmap?

An outcome-based roadmap describes the customer or business results a team is trying to achieve, such as reducing onboarding time, rather than just listing features and dates. It gives teams room to find the right solution and helps leadership see how work connects to strategy. Participants rebuild their own roadmap this way in the program.

How do you say no to stakeholders as a product manager?

Explain the trade-off rather than simply refusing. Show how the request compares with current priorities, what it would displace and what evidence supports each option. Offer alternatives, such as a later date or a smaller version. Keeping the conversation linked to shared goals protects the relationship even when the answer is no.

What skills does a head of product need?

A head of product needs strategic thinking, business acumen, stakeholder influence, the ability to build and coach a product team, and the judgement to make hard prioritisation calls. They also set product operating rhythms and represent product to leadership. Our new heads of product variant focuses on these responsibilities.

Does the program teach a specific product framework?

No single framework is required. We draw on widely used product concepts such as outcome roadmaps, discovery and OKRs, and adapt them to the methods your teams already use. The focus is on leadership behaviours: vision, alignment, decision-making and influence, rather than replacing your existing product process.

How long is the product leadership training?

Our recommended design is two days in person or five three-hour live virtual sessions, followed by a 60-day application period where participants apply the tools to their live roadmap. We customise the design after a needs analysis, and can add sessions for new heads of product or product trios.
