Why delivery leaders carry more weight in 2026
Clients now expect AI-driven productivity gains inside the same contract, while pricing pressure squeezes margins. Delivery managers sit where client expectations, commercial targets and team realities meet.
Many are promoted from strong project managers but have never been trained to manage account economics, senior client relationships or several managers at once. Delivery manager training closes that gap before it shows up as escalations or attrition.
A PwC India-FICCI study found 62% of GCCs named the lack of hybrid domain-plus-technology talent their biggest constraint.
The same study reported new GCC hires take an average of 8.69 months to reach full productivity.

Sample training plan: 3-day hands-on design
This three-day design prepares project managers and delivery managers to run whole engagements: clients, commercials and people. Each participant brings their own account. They rebuild a status report around outcomes and risks, present a QBR to a facilitator playing a client sponsor, survive a production outage escalation, turn around a margin-negative project, lead an onsite-offshore team through a tense hand-off, spot growth opportunities from delivery insight and hold stay conversations with key people. The capstone is an account review panel. Everyone leaves with a 90-day account improvement project.
Participants can map their account's stakeholders, run outcome-led governance and present a QBR that builds client confidence.

Recommended: 3 days in person (09:30–17:30), or 6 × 3-hour live virtual sessions, plus a 90-day account improvement project reviewed by delivery heads. A sample design: every Bodhih program is customised after a short needs analysis.
How long is delivery manager leadership training?
The recommended design is three days in person, from 09:30 to 17:30, or six live virtual sessions of three hours. A 90-day account improvement project follows, reviewed by delivery heads. A two-day version is available for shorter needs.
What activities are included in delivery manager leadership training?
Delivery managers rewrite their own status report, present a QBR to a sceptical client sponsor, run a steering committee, handle a live production outage escalation, turn around a margin-negative project, rehearse a change request and a stay conversation, and present an account improvement project to a panel.
How we deliver it
Real account cases
The ADDIE analysis phase gathers anonymised escalations, status reports and commercial scenarios from your engagements.
Client simulations
Facilitators play client sponsors and procurement leads in QBRs and escalation meetings so delivery managers can rehearse.
Cross-time-zone scheduling
Live virtual sessions are timed so onsite and offshore delivery managers can learn in the same cohort.
Account improvement project
Each participant applies the tools to one live engagement and presents improvements in governance, commercials or client health.
Tailored versions
For IT services firms
Focus on multi-client portfolios, fixed-price and managed services risk, account growth and onsite-offshore models.
For GCCs
Cases centre on internal business-unit stakeholders, shared KPIs with headquarters and moving from execution to ownership of outcomes.
New delivery manager fast-track
A focused version for recently promoted delivery managers on governance, escalations and leading managers.
How we measure impact
We apply the ADDIE Evaluate stage from the start. Participants complete a pre and post assessment on AssessAll covering stakeholder management, commercial acumen and people leadership. Delivery heads review account improvement projects at 30, 60 and 90 days. With your leadership team we track agreed indicators, such as client satisfaction scores, escalation frequency, margin trends, utilisation and regretted attrition on participants' accounts.
Pair this program with AssessAll, Bodhih’s AI assessment platform, for pre- and post-program skill measurement.
Frequently asked questions
What does a delivery manager do in IT services?
A delivery manager owns the successful delivery of one or more projects or services for a client. The role covers governance and reporting, client relationships, escalations, commercial health such as margins and utilisation, and leading project managers and teams across locations. It sits between project management and account leadership.
How do delivery managers handle client escalations?
Acknowledge the issue quickly, take ownership without blame, understand the client's impact and agree an immediate containment step. Then share a recovery plan with owners and dates, communicate on a set rhythm and close with a root-cause review. The program includes a live escalation simulation to practise this.
What skills does a delivery manager need?
Key skills include stakeholder management, structured communication, commercial and financial acumen, risk management, leading managers and distributed teams, and handling pressure. Technical and domain understanding helps credibility, especially with client architects and product owners. Delivery manager training builds these skills through practice on realistic account scenarios.
How do you move from project manager to delivery manager?
Broaden your focus from a single project's scope, schedule and budget to the health of several projects and the client relationship. Learn account economics, lead through other managers and build senior client relationships. Seek stretch roles such as covering for a delivery manager. The program eases this transition.
How do delivery managers improve account margins?
Common levers include a healthier team pyramid, higher utilisation, controlling scope creep through formal change requests, reducing rework and automating repeatable work. Delivery managers also need to price and staff new work realistically. The commercials module works through these levers using realistic case data.
Is this program suitable for GCC delivery leaders?
Yes. GCC delivery leaders manage internal clients, but the core skills are similar: governance, stakeholder trust, cost and productivity, and leading distributed teams. We adapt cases to the GCC context, including headquarters relationships and moving towards ownership of business outcomes.
How is the program delivered?
Bodhih delivers in person, with master trainers travelling from Bengaluru, or live virtually across time zones. Since 2008 we have facilitated 18,000+ programs for 2,000+ companies. The recommended design is customised after a needs analysis with your delivery leadership and HR teams.
