Why coaching one person at a time is no longer enough
Most work now moves through teams, not individuals. A product squad, a regional sales team or a finance close team succeeds or stumbles on how it agrees priorities, handles friction and learns from misses. A manager who coaches each person brilliantly can still lead a team that argues in circles.
Team coaching training shifts the manager's role from fixing to facilitating. It gives them questions, structures and the nerve to let the team do the thinking, so the team becomes more capable every quarter instead of more dependent.
LinkedIn names cross-functional collaboration, team management and mentorship among the fastest-growing skills of 2026.
Global manager engagement fell from 31% in 2022 to 22% in 2025.

Sample training plan: 1.5-day hands-on design
This one-and-a-half-day design gets managers coaching groups within the first hour. Participants notice how often they rescue a team, then practise opening and closing a team coaching conversation, guiding a team to a shared goal and co-writing working agreements. The afternoon turns to tension: reading unspoken conflict, using safe structures and handling the moment a disagreement turns personal. Day two covers coaching a retrospective and stepping back. Each participant leaves with session designs and a 60-day practice plan.
Participants can run a team coaching conversation, help a team set goals and agreements, and surface tensions safely.

How long is team coaching training?
The recommended design is one and a half days in person, a full day and a morning, or four live virtual sessions of three hours, followed by a 60-day practice period with group supervision and a review at 90 days.
What activities are included in team coaching training?
Participants spot their rescue reflex in a team puzzle, practise opening and closing team sessions, coach a team to a shared goal, write working agreements in a merged-team simulation, read unspoken conflict in a fishbowl, handle a conflict that turns personal and coach a retrospective.
How we deliver it
Practice on live teams
Participants coach small groups formed from the cohort on real issues, with observers tracking airtime, questions and who owns the outcome.
Supervised practice period
After the workshop, each participant coaches their own team and brings recordings or notes to a group supervision session.
Fishbowls and replays
Fishbowl demonstrations and replays of key moments help managers see group dynamics they usually miss in the moment.
Toolkit you can reuse
Each participant leaves with session designs for goal-setting, working agreements, tension check-ins and retrospectives.
Tailored versions
For product and engineering teams
Focuses on coaching retrospectives, cross-functional friction between product, design and engineering, and teams working across cities.
Manager and team together
After the manager program, a Bodhih facilitator co-leads the first team coaching session with the manager and their own team.
Internal coach track
An extended version for HR and internal coaches, with additional supervised practice across several teams in the organisation.
How we measure impact
We measure in the Evaluate stage of ADDIE. Participants take an AssessAll pre-assessment, including the Coaching Conversation Assessment with a Spoken Round for Managers and Internal Coaches and the Team Read Accuracy Assessment for People Managers, and repeat it as a post-assessment at day 90. The 30-60-90 day follow-up combines group supervision, a short team pulse on clarity and openness, and a review of the team coaching sessions each participant has run.
Pair this program with AssessAll, Bodhih’s AI assessment platform, for pre- and post-program skill measurement.
Frequently asked questions
What is team coaching training?
Team coaching training teaches managers and internal coaches to coach a whole team as a unit. Instead of solving problems for the team or coaching each member separately, they learn to run conversations where the team sets goals, agrees how it works, raises tensions and learns from its own experience.
What is the difference between team coaching and individual coaching?
Individual coaching helps one person think through their goals and challenges. Team coaching works with the relationships and patterns between people: how the team decides, communicates, disagrees and learns. The coach must manage group dynamics, multiple viewpoints and quieter voices, which needs different skills from one-to-one work.
Can a manager coach their own team?
Yes, with care. Managers hold authority, so team members may hold back or defer to them. The program teaches managers to set clear ground rules, ask before stating their own view and sometimes bring in a neutral facilitator for sensitive topics. Many teams benefit from a manager who coaches regularly rather than occasionally.
What does a team coaching session look like?
A typical session lasts 60 to 90 minutes. The team agrees the purpose, explores a real issue with open questions, hears every voice, surfaces disagreement and commits to one or two changes it owns. The coach asks more than tells, and the team reviews progress at the next session.
How do you get a quiet team to open up?
Use structures that make speaking easier: individual reflection before discussion, round-robins, small-group breakouts and anonymous inputs. Respond well to the first risky comment, because the team is watching. Over time, consistent and safe handling of honest input builds the openness that team coaching relies on.
How long is the team coaching training program?
The recommended design is one and a half days in person or four live virtual sessions of three hours, followed by a 60-day practice period with group supervision. Internal coaches can take an extended track. Bodhih customises the design after a short needs analysis.
Where is team coaching training delivered?
Bodhih runs team coaching training in Bangalore, Chennai, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune at client offices. Master trainers also travel to Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Singapore, and the live virtual version works well for managers whose teams are spread across locations.
