Self leadership training is a program that teaches individual contributors to direct, motivate and manage themselves at work. Bodhih's version covers personal purpose and goals, motivation strategies, prioritisation, working alongside AI tools, and asking for what you need. It suits flatter organisations where managers have wider spans and less time for day-to-day guidance.

Why leading yourself is now part of the job description
Organisations are removing layers, and the managers who remain are coaching bigger teams. That leaves individual contributors with more freedom and less hand-holding: nobody is checking the backlog each morning or noticing when motivation dips. Self leadership training fills the gap before it turns into drift.
AI assistants add a new twist. They can draft, summarise and code, but they cannot decide what matters most this week or when to raise a flag. People who can set direction, manage their own energy and speak up early are the ones who make flatter, AI-augmented teams actually work.
The number of managers at public companies fell by 6.1% between May 2022 and May 2025.
Gallup data cited by Forbes shows average direct reports per manager rose from 10.9 in 2024 to 12.1 in 2025.
What participants will be able to do
Own your direction

Decide what to do, defer, delegate to tools or drop when several stakeholders all say their request is urgent.
Ask for what you need
Request context, resources and feedback from a busy manager in a clear, concise way that gets a response.
Raise flags early
Spot slipping deadlines or blockers and escalate with options instead of waiting for someone to notice.
Review and reset

How we deliver it
Real workloads, real choices
Participants bring their actual task lists and calendars, so prioritisation and planning exercises produce plans they will use on Monday.
Peer accountability pods
Small groups of three check in on each other's commitments between sessions, which builds the habit of self leadership without a supervisor.
Scenario practice
Short role-plays cover asking for context, pushing back on a clash and escalating a risk, with feedback from peers and the facilitator.
ADDIE-based customisation
Bodhih's self leadership training is shaped after a short needs analysis, so examples reflect your team structure, tools and pace.
Tailored versions
For engineering and GCC teams
Cases on sprint commitments, unclear tickets, time-zone handovers and deciding when to trust or check AI-generated code.
For graduate and early-career cohorts
More support on building routines, asking questions confidently and navigating the first year without close supervision.
For emerging leaders
Adds how self leadership becomes the base for leading others, with a bridge into first-time manager development.
How we measure impact
We use the ADDIE Evaluate stage to agree success measures with you before delivery. Participants can take a pre and post assessment on AssessAll covering initiative, self-management and ownership. Managers rate a small set of observable behaviours, such as early escalation and self-set priorities, before the program and at 60 days. At 30, 60 and 90 days, accountability pods and short check-ins review each person's action plan, and we share a summary of patterns with HR.
Pair this program with AssessAll, Bodhih’s AI assessment platform, for pre- and post-program skill measurement.
Frequently asked questions
What is self leadership in the workplace?
Self leadership is the ability to set your own direction, motivate yourself and manage your behaviour to achieve meaningful goals, even when nobody is directing you day to day. At work it shows up as clear priorities, steady effort, early escalation of problems and asking for support when needed. It is increasingly expected of individual contributors in flatter organisations.
What are the core self leadership skills?
The core skills are self-awareness, goal setting, self-motivation, prioritisation, self-monitoring and constructive self-talk. Self leadership training also covers the outward-facing skills that make these work in real teams, such as managing up, requesting feedback and escalating risks. Bodhih builds each skill through practice on participants' real workloads rather than theory alone.
How is self leadership training different from time management training?
Time management focuses on planning and using time well. Self leadership is broader: it covers why you work, how you keep motivated, how you make choices when priorities clash and how you ask for what you need. Many organisations run both, with time management as a practical toolkit and self leadership as the mindset that holds it together.
Is this program only for future managers?
No. It is designed first for individual contributors who want to do excellent work with more autonomy. Self leadership does, however, provide a strong base for leading others later, so it is often included in early talent or emerging leader pathways. The design can be tuned for either group after the needs analysis.
Can self leadership be learned, or is it a personality trait?
It can be learned. Research on self leadership describes it as a set of behavioural and thinking strategies, which means people can practise and improve them. The program uses self-assessment, personal planning, peer accountability and follow-up so that new habits get tested in real weeks, not just discussed in a workshop.
How does AI change self leadership at work?
AI tools make it easier to produce work quickly, but they do not decide which work matters or when to challenge a request. The program helps people decide what to hand to AI, what to check and where their own judgement adds the most value. This keeps ownership of outcomes firmly with the person, not the tool.
How is the program delivered and customised?
Bodhih delivers in person across India, the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia and beyond, with master trainers travelling from Bengaluru, or as live virtual sessions. Every program follows the ADDIE model, so we start with a short analysis of your structure, roles and challenges and adapt cases, duration and emphasis to match.
