High-tech workplaces need high-touch managers
As AI takes on more routine work, what people value most from their manager is being seen and understood. Employees expect more from employers, and managers are under pressure too, stretched by bigger teams and faster change.
Empathy is often treated as a personality trait. Empathetic leadership training treats it as a set of learnable behaviours, practised in the real moments of management: the performance review, the missed deadline, the quiet team member.
SHRM's 2026 research found 72% of HR professionals say workers have higher expectations of employers today.
Gallup reports South Asia, primarily India, saw an eight-point fall in manager engagement in 2025, the largest of any region.
What participants will be able to do

Say the hard thing kindly and directly, instead of avoiding it or softening it into nothing.
Spot disengagement early
Notice changes in energy, participation and output, and open a caring conversation at the right time.
Listen so people feel heard
Use reflective listening and open questions to understand what is really going on.
Protect your own energy

How we deliver it
Real conversations, rehearsed
Managers bring upcoming performance or check-in conversations and rehearse them with feedback before the real thing.
Theatre-based option
Trained actors can play team members, letting managers see and feel the effect of their words from the other side.
Reflection and journaling
Short reflection prompts help managers notice their own reactions and assumptions during the practice period.
Clear boundaries
The program is awareness and skills training, and always signposts professional support for mental health concerns.
Tailored versions

For healthcare and high-pressure teams
Addresses compassion fatigue, shift pressures and supporting team members after difficult incidents.
Theatre-based intensive
A one-day format built around live scenes with actors, for a vivid, memorable experience of empathy in action.
How we measure impact
Evaluation follows ADDIE's final stage. Managers take a pre and post assessment of empathy and emotional intelligence behaviours on AssessAll, Bodhih's AI assessment platform, and can add a 360° pulse from their teams on listening and approachability. Reporting managers hold check-ins at 30 and 60 days. With HR, we review agreed indicators such as engagement items on manager support or early attrition.
Pair this program with AssessAll, Bodhih’s AI assessment platform, for pre- and post-program skill measurement.
Frequently asked questions
What is empathetic leadership?
Empathetic leadership means understanding the thoughts and feelings of the people you lead and using that understanding to guide how you support, challenge and decide. It is not about agreeing with everyone or lowering standards. Empathetic leadership training builds the listening, perspective-taking and conversation skills that make this practical.
How can managers show empathy at work?
Listen fully without rushing to solutions, ask how people are really doing, acknowledge feelings, and consider the other person's circumstances before judging. Follow up on what you hear. Small acts, such as adjusting a deadline for a genuine reason, matter. Managers practise these behaviours with real scenarios in the program.
Can a leader be too empathetic?
Empathy can become a problem when it turns into avoiding hard messages, taking on everyone's stress or making exceptions that feel unfair to others. Healthy empathy is paired with clear expectations and personal boundaries. The program specifically covers empathy fatigue and how to stay caring without becoming overwhelmed.
How do you balance empathy and accountability?
Separate the person from the performance. Show understanding of their situation while being clear about what needs to change and by when. Offer support where you can. This is often called compassionate candour. Participants rehearse this balance in performance conversation role-plays.
How do managers spot disengagement early?
Look for changes rather than absolute levels: a normally vocal person going quiet, slower responses, missed deadlines, withdrawal from team events. Then open a gentle, private check-in. The training gives managers a list of early signals and phrases to start the conversation without prying.
Does this training cover mental health?
It covers how managers notice signs of stress and respond supportively, but it is not clinical or counselling training. Managers learn to signpost professional help, such as your Employee Assistance Program or a qualified professional. For deeper coverage, we offer a separate mental health awareness program for managers.
How is this different from emotional intelligence training?
Emotional intelligence training builds an individual's self-awareness and self-management. Empathetic leadership training focuses on applying empathy in the manager's role: performance talks, feedback, disengagement and team support. Many managers benefit from both, and they can be combined into one journey.
Can empathy really be learned?
Yes. People differ in natural tendency, but the behaviours that show empathy, such as listening fully, asking open questions and considering another view before judging, can be learned and strengthened with practice. Empathetic leadership training focuses on these behaviours, with rehearsal and feedback, so they become habits in everyday management.
