01

Why pharma selling is changing

Doctors are busier, better informed and more selective about which representatives they meet. Tighter marketing rules have also removed many of the old ways of building relationships.

Pharma sales training helps field teams compete on scientific value and service instead. It makes compliance part of everyday call behaviour, not just a policy document.

02

What participants will be able to do

01

Plan every doctor call

Set a clear call objective based on the doctor's specialty, patient profile and prescribing stage.

02

Detail with scientific credibility

Present clinical evidence simply and accurately, using approved materials and a patient-centred story.

03

Handle medical objections

Respond to concerns on efficacy, side effects, pricing and competitor brands with evidence, not pressure.

04

Sell ethically under UCPMP

Recognise what the marketing code allows on samples, brand reminders, CMEs and hospitality, and decline what it does not.

05

Strengthen the chemist and stockist link

Ensure product availability and build relationships with retailers and stockists in the territory.

Follow up with doctors through approved digital channels without breaching compliance or data privacy.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is pharma sales training?

Pharma sales training develops the skills medical representatives and field managers need to engage doctors and other healthcare professionals. It covers doctor segmentation, call planning, scientific detailing, objection handling, territory management and ethical practice under India's pharmaceutical marketing code. Good training is customised to each company's therapy areas and approved materials.

How can a medical representative improve doctor calls?

Prepare each call with a clear objective, review earlier notes and open with something relevant to the doctor's patients. Keep the detail short and evidence-based, ask questions to understand the doctor's view and agree a simple next step. Practising with realistic role-plays and manager feedback speeds up improvement.

What is UCPMP 2024 and why does it matter for field teams?

UCPMP 2024 is the Uniform Code for Pharmaceutical Marketing Practices released by India's Department of Pharmaceuticals in March 2024. It sets rules on how companies and their representatives interact with healthcare professionals, including gifts, samples, travel and continuing medical education. Field teams must understand it, because their daily behaviour determines whether the company stays compliant.

Does this training replace our internal compliance training?

No, our program complements your compliance training by building the practical skills to sell ethically in real conversations. We work with your compliance and medical teams to ensure examples match your policies. Formal legal interpretation of the code should always come from your own compliance or legal advisers.

What skills does a medical representative need?

A medical representative needs product and therapy knowledge, the ability to explain clinical evidence simply, planning and territory management, strong listening and questioning, objection handling, relationship building with doctors and chemists, and a clear understanding of ethical boundaries. Resilience and self-discipline also matter in field roles.

Can the program be delivered to field teams across India?

Yes, we run the program at your cycle meetings or regional locations, with master trainers travelling from Bengaluru. Live virtual sessions work well for manager programs and refreshers. We can also provide e-learning modules through Bodhih.org for reinforcement between meetings.

How do you train new medical representatives?

New medical representatives need a blend of therapy knowledge, company processes and practical call skills. We recommend a structured induction with short classroom sessions, plenty of detailing role-plays, joint field work with a first-line manager and an ethics module on the marketing code. Regular feedback during the first 90 days helps new MRs build confidence quickly.
