Frequently asked questions
What is outbound training?
Outbound training, often shortened to OBT, is a form of experiential learning held outdoors. Teams take on structured physical or problem-solving challenges and then debrief with a facilitator to connect what happened to their work. It is also called outdoor learning or adventure learning. The debrief is what separates OBT from a simple team outing.
Is outbound training safe?
Safety is planned from the start. Bodhih carries out activity-specific risk assessments, briefs participants before every challenge, collects health declarations and works with venues that provide appropriate equipment and trained staff. Participants follow challenge by choice, which means nobody is forced into an activity they are uncomfortable with. First aid arrangements are confirmed before the day.
What activities are included in outbound training?
Activities range from low-intensity ground challenges, such as puzzles, blindfold tasks and resource-limited builds, to more active tasks where the venue supports them. Each one is chosen for a learning goal like communication, planning or leadership, and the mix is adjusted for fitness levels, weather and the group's profile.
What is challenge by choice in outbound training?
Challenge by choice means each participant decides how far to push themselves in an activity. Someone may choose to take part in a support or observer role instead of a physical task. This keeps the experience inclusive and safe, and it often produces better learning because people stretch themselves willingly rather than under pressure.
How long should an outbound training program be?
A one-day program suits most team-building goals and fits within a working week. Two days, often with an overnight stay, allows deeper leadership and strategy work with more time for debriefs. Bodhih recommends the duration after the needs analysis, based on group size, goals and venue. Large groups may be split into parallel teams with separate facilitators.
