A training calendar is a month-by-month schedule of the programs an organisation will run in a year, with the audience, format, owner, budget and success measure for each. Bodhih's free 2027 template follows the Indian April to March financial year and comes as a CSV file you can open in Excel or Google Sheets.

A training calendar is a month-by-month schedule of an organisation's training programs, showing audience, format, owner, budget and success measure for each. Bodhih's free 2027 template follows the Indian April to March financial year, has 15 columns and a worked example, and downloads as a CSV for Excel or Google Sheets.

## What is an annual training calendar?

An annual training calendar turns the learning plan into dates. It tells employees and managers what is coming, lets HR book trainers, rooms and budgets early, and makes sure mandatory training, such as POSH awareness, is not forgotten. A good calendar is built from a [training needs analysis](https://bodhih.com/training-needs-analysis-workshop/), not from last year's list of popular programs.

## What should a training calendar include?

Every row in the template has 15 columns. The ones most calendars miss are in bold.

| Column | Why it matters |
| --- | --- |
| Month and quarter | Fits the plan to the April–March financial year and to busy seasons |
| Program | What will run |
| Audience / role | Who it is for, so nominations are not random |
| **Skill gap it addresses** | Links each program to a finding from the needs analysis |
| **Business measure it should move** | The number a sponsor cares about, agreed before the program |
| Format and duration | In person, [live virtual](https://bodhih.com/live-virtual-classes/), blended or e-learning |
| Number of participants | Drives batch count and cost |
| Trainer / provider | Internal trainer or external partner |
| Budget (₹) | Per program, so the total adds up to the approved L&D budget |
| **Pre-assessment** | The baseline you will compare against |
| **Post-assessment / follow-up date** | When you will check behaviour change, usually 60 to 90 days later |
| Owner and status | Who is accountable, and where each program stands |

## How do I build a training calendar? A 6-step process

1. **Start with business goals for the year.** List the three to five outcomes the business must deliver: revenue growth, a new product, a new region, lower attrition.
2. **Run a training needs analysis.** For each critical role, compare the skills needed with current skills, using data, manager input and assessments. Our free [training needs analysis template](https://bodhih.com/training-needs-analysis-template/) gives you the columns.
3. **Separate training problems from other problems.** If the gap comes from a broken process, missing tools or wrong hiring, training will not fix it.
4. **Prioritise.** Fund the few programs that move a business measure properly before spreading budget across many small sessions.
5. **Place programs in the year.** Avoid quarter-end and year-end closing weeks, peak sales seasons and festival periods. Put induction programs where new joiners arrive, and leadership programs where promotions take effect.
6. **Set the measure before you run anything.** Decide the pre-assessment, the follow-up date and the business number for every program. Review the calendar every quarter.

## A sample month-by-month training calendar for Indian companies

The template is pre-filled with this example so you can see how a complete row looks. Replace it with your own programs.

| Month | Example program | Why that month |
| --- | --- | --- |
| January | [POSH](https://bodhih.com/prevention-of-sexual-harassment/) awareness refresher; sales kick-off | Calendar-year compliance cycle; new sales targets |
| February | Training needs analysis for the next financial year | Feeds the budget before 1 April |
| March | [Train the Trainer](https://bodhih.com/train-the-trainer/) for internal experts | Builds internal capacity before the new year |
| April | First-time manager program | Promotions usually take effect at the start of the financial year |
| May | Generative AI at work | Quieter weeks after year-end closing |
| June | Business communication and email writing | Before the second quarter's peak |
| July | Campus to corporate induction | Graduate joiners typically arrive in July and August |
| August | Negotiation skills | Ahead of vendor and key-account negotiations |
| September | Mid-year coaching conversations | Mid-year reviews |
| October | Leadership development cohort | Runs over several months into the new year |
| November | Customer service excellence | Before the year-end peak for many consumer businesses |
| December | Year-end review and planning | Evaluate the year and carry unmet needs forward |

Dates differ by industry. A retailer may avoid October and November entirely because of the festival season, while an IT services firm may plan around client release cycles.

## How do I measure whether the calendar worked?

Track three things for each program:

- **Delivery:** did it run on time, with the right people?
- **Learning:** did assessment scores improve from the pre-assessment to the post-assessment?
- **Behaviour and results:** 60 to 90 days later, are people doing something differently, and did the agreed business measure move?

This follows the Kirkpatrick model of evaluation. Bodhih measures programs before and after on AssessAll, its AI assessment platform. For more on evaluation, see [measuring training ROI](https://bodhih.com/measuring-training-roi-four-evaluation-levels/).

## Can Bodhih help us build our training calendar?

## Frequently asked questions

### What is a training calendar?

A training calendar is a schedule of all the training programs an organisation plans to run over a year, showing each program's month, audience, format, trainer, budget and how its success will be measured. It helps HR plan resources and lets employees and managers see learning opportunities in advance.

### When should we prepare the training calendar for 2027?

Indian companies on an April to March financial year should finish the needs analysis by February and approve the calendar with the budget in March. Companies on a January to December year should finalise it by early December. Either way, leave time to book trainers and venues.

### Is this training calendar template free?

Yes. The CSV template is free to download and use, with no sign-up. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets or any spreadsheet tool, delete the example rows and add your own programs.

### What is the difference between a training calendar and a training plan?

A training plan explains what the organisation will develop and why: the goals, gaps, priorities and budget. A training calendar is the schedule that puts that plan into dates. You need the plan first; the calendar follows from it.

### How many training programs should be on an annual calendar?

There is no fixed number. It depends on headcount, budget and how many gaps the needs analysis found. A focused calendar with fewer, well-measured programs usually does more than a long list of one-off sessions.

### Should mandatory compliance training be on the calendar?

Yes. Put mandatory programs, such as POSH awareness and Internal Committee training, on the calendar first, then plan development programs around them. Check the requirements that apply to your organisation and state.
