The project is three weeks behind, the status report still says green and the steering committee meets on Thursday. Our project communication training helps project managers and delivery leads write updates leaders actually read, report red without fear, escalate in a way that gets decisions and keep global clients informed before they have to ask.

## Why project communication fails before the project does

Most troubled projects are not surprises to the people running them. The risk was known weeks earlier, but it sat in a 14-slide deck, a watermelon status that was green outside and red inside, or an email that described the problem without asking for a decision. Senior stakeholders find out late and trust drops.

Distributed delivery makes this harder. A delivery lead in Pune may report to a client in Frankfurt, a sponsor in Gurugram and a team spread across three time zones and two chat tools. Project communication training gives that lead a short, repeatable way to say what matters, to the right person, at the right time.

## What participants will be able to do

### Map who needs what

Build a stakeholder map and a one-page communication plan that sets audience, channel, frequency and owner for every update.

### Write status reports people read

Lead with decisions needed and key risks, then progress, in a format a sponsor can absorb in two minutes.

### Rate status honestly

Apply clear red-amber-green criteria and report red early, with a recovery path rather than an apology.

### Escalate to get decisions

Write escalations that state the issue, options, recommendation and deadline, so leaders can decide in one reply.

### Run sharp steering updates

Present a ten-minute steering committee update that ends with recorded decisions and named owners.

### Communicate changes and delays

Explain change requests and slipped dates to global clients early, clearly and without defensiveness, in writing and on calls.

## Who should attend

## Sample training plan: 1-day hands-on design

This one-day design runs on participants' own project documents. They map stakeholders for a live project, cut a 14-slide status pack to one page and argue over when a watermelon project should turn red. Then the pressure rises: an escalation that must win a decision in one reply, a steering committee where the budget is at risk and a delay that must be explained to a client in Frankfurt. The day ends with three-line chat updates and a 60-day plan.

80% hands-on practice · 6.8 contact hours · Cohort: 12–24 participants · In person · Live virtual

### Day 1: Say what matters, early

Participants can plan project communication, write clear reports and escalations, and handle steering and client updates.

1. 09:30–10:00 · Two-minute sponsor (Energiser)
2. 10:00–10:45 · Who needs what (Hands-on lab)
3. 11:00–12:15 · Fourteen slides to one page (Build sprint)
4. 12:15–13:00 · When is it red? (Debate)
5. 13:45–14:45 · The one-reply escalation (Skill drill)
6. 14:45–15:45 · The steering committee (Simulation)
7. 16:00–16:45 · Telling Frankfurt (Role-play)
8. 16:45–17:30 · Three lines and a plan (Action planning)

Recommended: 1 day in person (09:30–17:30), or 4 × 2-hour live virtual sessions, plus a 60-day status report clinic. A sample design: every Bodhih program is customised after a short needs analysis.

### How long is project communication training?

The recommended design is one full day in person, or four live virtual sessions of two hours each, followed by a 60-day status report clinic in which participants submit real reports and escalations for written feedback.

### What activities are included in project communication training?

Participants map stakeholders, cut a status pack to one page, debate when a project should turn red, rewrite an escalation until it wins a decision in one reply, run a steering committee with a budget at risk, explain a delay to a client and write three-line chat updates.

## How we deliver it

### Real reports, real rewrites

Participants bring a recent status report, escalation and client email, and rewrite each during the program with feedback.

### Simulated steering meetings

Facilitators and peers play sponsors, client heads and finance controllers who interrupt, challenge and demand decisions.

### Writing and speaking together

Each topic is practised in writing and aloud, because a project update often moves from email to a call within an hour.

### Status report clinic

For 60 days after the program, participants submit real reports for short written feedback from a Bodhih facilitator.

## Tailored versions

### For IT services and GCC delivery teams

Cases on global clients, onsite-offshore coordination, change requests, time zones and weekly client status calls.

### For engineering and infrastructure projects

Cases on site progress reports, vendor delays, design changes and owner meetings, for project teams in India and the Gulf.

### For PMO teams

A version for PMO analysts and leads on standard templates, portfolio dashboards and coaching project managers to report honestly.

## How we measure impact

Project communication training is evaluated within ADDIE's Evaluate stage. Each participant takes an AssessAll pre-assessment, using Executive Summary and One-Page Brief Writing and [Stakeholder Management](https://bodhih.com/stakeholder-management-skills/) & Influence, and submits a sample status report. After the program, a post-assessment and a fresh report sample show the change. A 30-60-90 day follow-up then reviews report length, decisions secured from escalations, stakeholder feedback and how early projects move to amber or red.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is project communication training?

Project communication training teaches project managers, program leads and delivery leads to keep stakeholders informed and decisions moving. It covers stakeholder mapping, communication plans, status reports, red-amber-green ratings, escalations, steering committee updates, writing for global clients, communicating delays and short chat updates. Bodhih uses participants' own project documents as practice material.

### What should a project status report include?

A useful status report opens with any decisions needed and the main risks, then summarises progress against milestones, budget and scope. It gives an honest overall rating with a one-line reason and lists next steps with owners. Keep it to one page or one screen so a sponsor can read it in two minutes.

### How do you write a project escalation email?

State the issue in one sentence, then its impact on dates, cost or quality. Offer two or three options with your recommendation, and say what decision you need and by when. Keep the tone factual, avoid blaming other teams and send it to the person who can actually decide.

### How do you communicate a project delay to a client?

Tell the client as soon as the delay is likely, not when it is certain. Explain the cause briefly, the new expected date, what you are doing to recover and what you need from them. Follow a call with a short written summary so both sides share the same record.

### When should a project be reported as red?

Report red when a key milestone, budget or scope target will be missed without a decision or help from outside the project team. Agree clear criteria for each colour at the start. Reporting red early, with a recovery path, gives leaders time to act and usually builds rather than damages trust.

### How is project communication training different from project management training?

[Project management](https://bodhih.com/project-management-training/) training covers planning, scheduling, risk and delivery methods. Project communication training focuses only on how project information moves: reports, escalations, meetings, client updates and chat messages. It suits project managers who already know their method but find stakeholders are surprised, confused or slow to decide.

### Is project communication training available online or in Doha?

Yes. Online, it runs as four two-hour sessions, ideal for delivery teams spread across Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad and client locations abroad. Bodhih's master trainers also travel from Bengaluru to run it in person across India and in the Gulf, including Doha and Dubai, at your office or a nearby venue.
