## The shop floor has changed. Supervisors need new tools.

India's manufacturing push, from electronics and EV components to pharma and food processing, is adding lines, shifts and new plants. Each one depends on supervisors who can hit output, quality and safety targets with a mixed workforce of permanent, contract, fixed-term and trainee workers.

The new [labour codes](https://bodhih.com/labour-codes-compliance-training/) add fresh expectations around fairness, appointment letters and safety committees. Production supervisor training helps supervisors turn these expectations into respectful, consistent daily practice, while your HR, legal and EHS teams stay the authority on compliance.

> India's four Labour Codes took effect on 21 November 2025, consolidating 29 central labour laws.

## What participants will be able to do

### Lead the line, not just run it

Shift from firefighting to leading, with a daily routine that balances output, quality, safety and people.

### Hand over without gaps

Run a structured shift handover that captures machine status, quality holds, safety issues and manpower.

### Talk safety and quality with conviction

Hold short, respectful safety and quality conversations that correct unsafe acts and reinforce good practice.

### Lead a mixed workforce fairly

Treat permanent, contract, fixed-term and trainee workers consistently on allocation, recognition and discipline.

### Handle grievances early

Listen to worker complaints, resolve what is in their control and escalate the rest through the right channel.

### Solve problems at the source

Use simple tools such as 5 Whys and a Gemba walk to fix recurring losses instead of patching them.

## How we deliver it

### At or near the plant

Master trainers travel from Bengaluru to deliver at your plant or a nearby venue, and sessions are split to fit shift patterns.

### Plant-specific scenarios

We walk the floor during design and build role-plays from your real breakdowns, quality holds and manpower situations.

### Simple, visual tools

Supervisors leave with laminated job aids for handovers, safety talks and coaching that can live at the workstation.

### Production manager as coach

Production managers receive an observation checklist and hold short follow-ups on the floor during the 60-day application.

## Tailored versions

### For automotive and engineering plants

Focuses on takt-driven lines, changeovers, supplier quality issues and large contract workforces.

### For pharma and food processing

Adds GMP-conscious behaviour, documentation discipline, hygiene conversations and audit readiness on the floor.

### For new plants and expansions

A version for greenfield units where most supervisors and workers are new, with extra focus on onboarding and building routines.

## How we measure impact

Evaluation follows the ADDIE model's final stage. Supervisors complete a short pre and post assessment on AssessAll, Bodhih's AI assessment platform, which works on mobile. Production managers observe a handover and a safety conversation at 30 and 60 days using our checklist. At 90 days we review plant indicators agreed at the start, such as near-miss reporting, first-pass yield, absenteeism or grievance resolution time, alongside action-plan completion.

## Frequently asked questions

### What does a production supervisor do?

A production supervisor leads a shift or line to meet output, quality, safety and cost targets. The role covers planning manpower, running handovers and start-of-shift talks, coaching workers, solving problems, handling grievances and reporting to the production manager. Production supervisor training builds the people side of this role, which is often learned only by trial and error.

### How do supervisors manage contract workers?

Treat contract workers with the same respect and consistency as permanent staff on safety, instructions and recognition. Coordinate with the contractor's supervisor on attendance and discipline, and make sure training and PPE reach everyone. The program covers practical routines for this. It is [leadership training](https://bodhih.com/leadership-skills-training-in-india/), not legal advice, so your HR and legal teams guide contract labour compliance.

### How do you run a good shift handover?

Use a standard checklist and hand over face to face at the line where possible. Cover machine status, quality holds, safety issues, pending work and manpower. The incoming supervisor should confirm understanding and ask questions. Participants practise this with a checklist adapted to your plant during the training.

### How should supervisors talk to workers about safety?

Speak up immediately, calmly and privately where possible. Describe the unsafe act and the risk, ask why it happened and agree the safe way. Praise safe behaviour just as visibly. Our role-plays prepare supervisors for tough cases, such as a senior worker who ignores rules. The program does not replace your statutory safety training.

### How do supervisors deal with union issues on the shop floor?

Supervisors should listen respectfully, avoid promises or threats, keep records of facts and escalate to HR or industrial relations promptly. Consistent, fair treatment every day prevents many disputes. The training covers what supervisors should and should not say. It is not legal advice, and your IR and legal teams remain the authority.

### Can the training be run at our plant and in Hindi?

Yes. Our master trainers travel from Bengaluru to plants across India and to the Middle East and other regions. We can run sessions in Hindi or other regional languages on request, and split the program across shifts so production is not disrupted. Venue and language needs are confirmed during the needs analysis.

### How is this different from frontline leadership training?

Frontline leadership training serves supervisors across service operations, logistics, retail and shared services. Production supervisor training is built only for manufacturing plants, with modules on shift handovers, safety and quality on the line, contract labour and shop-floor relations. The scenarios come from your plant.

### Do the new labour codes change a supervisor's role?

The codes mainly change obligations for employers, but supervisors apply many of them daily through rosters, overtime, safety and fair treatment. The program helps supervisors understand the practical side and work with HR. For detailed compliance, see our separate New Labour Codes training for HR and managers and consult your legal advisers.
