## Why IT services selling looks different in 2026

Enterprise buyers now weigh three options for the same work: your firm, another vendor and their own capability centre in Bengaluru, Pune or Hyderabad. The conversation has moved from headcount and rates to outcomes, risk and how fast value shows up.

The people who decide also sit well beyond the CIO's office. Client partners who only know their IT counterparts lose renewals they never saw coming. IT services [sales training](https://bodhih.com/professional-sales-skills-training-in-india/) gives teams one shared way to map accounts, run pursuits and talk business with every stakeholder.

> India has over 1,700 global capability centres employing more than 19 lakh people.

## What participants will be able to do

### Mine accounts with a plan

Build an account plan that maps current spend, white space and the next three realistic expansion moves.

### Reach beyond the IT buyer

Map business, finance and operations stakeholders and earn a genuine reason to meet each of them.

### Run a coordinated pursuit

Give the client partner, solution architect and delivery lead clear roles so the client hears one story.

### Win the orals

Deliver a solution presentation in which every presenter links their part to the client's stated outcome.

### Explain delivery models plainly

Describe time and material, fixed price and managed services in terms of risk, flexibility and cost visibility.

### Compete with respect

Position against in-house [GCCs](https://bodhih.com/gcc-leadership-development-program/) and other vendors on evidence and fit, never by running them down.

## Who should attend

- Client partners and engagement managers who own revenue in enterprise accounts
- Account managers and BD managers in IT services, digital engineering and technology consulting firms
- Solution architects and delivery leads who join pursuit teams and orals
- Pursuit and deal managers coordinating large, multi-tower opportunities

## Program outline

Recommended design, customised to your context after a short needs analysis.

### **Reading the enterprise account**Module 1 · 90 min

- Where the account spends today and where it is heading next year
- White space mapping across business units, towers and geographies
- Expansion triggers: new leadership, mergers, a GCC launch, a struggling incumbent
- Researching an account with AI tools, then checking every claim at source

### **Relationships beyond the IT buyer**Module 2 · 2 hours

- Stakeholder maps that include business owners, finance, procurement and operations
- Earning a meeting with someone who has never heard of your team
- Champions, sceptics and the quiet influencer who joins only the final call
- Practice: a first meeting with a business-unit head who owns the budget

### **Pursuit teams that tell one story**Module 3 · 90 min

- Roles for the client partner, solution architect, delivery lead and pricing lead
- Win themes agreed before anyone builds a slide
- Pursuit stand-ups, decision logs and one owner for client contact
- A brief word on proposals, with formal bid work left to bid teams

### **Orals and solution presentations**Module 4 · 2 hours

- Opening with the client's outcome, not your company history
- Hand-offs between presenters that feel rehearsed, not scripted
- Answering the hard question you hoped they would not ask
- Filmed orals rehearsal with a mock client panel and scored feedback

### **Delivery models in business language**Module 5 · 90 min

- Time and material, fixed price and managed services compared on risk, control and cost visibility
- Outcome-based and hybrid models explained without jargon
- Answering 'why not build it in our own GCC?' with facts and respect

### **Renewals and growth with delivery**Module 6 · 90 min

- Joint account reviews where sales and delivery share one view of the client
- Turning delivery wins into evidence the client recognises
- Spotting renewal risk six months early
- Personal 90-day account growth plan

## Sample training plan: 2-day hands-on design

This two-day design moves client partners from serving one IT buyer to growing a whole account. Day one maps spend, white space and stakeholders beyond IT, practises a first meeting with a budget owner and rehearses two-minute explanations of delivery models. Day two forms pursuit teams, agrees win themes and puts each team through filmed orals before a mock client panel. Sales and delivery then run a joint account review, and everyone leaves with a 90-day account growth plan.

75% hands-on practice · 13 contact hours · Cohort: 12–20 participants, ideally mixing sales and delivery roles · In person · Live virtual

### Day 1: Know the account, widen the circle

Participants can map their account, reach business stakeholders and explain delivery models plainly.

1. 09:30–10:00 · Who signs, who decides? (Energiser)
2. 10:00–11:00 · Spend and white space (Diagnostic)
3. 11:15–12:00 · AI-assisted account research (Hands-on lab)
4. 12:00–12:45 · Mapping influence beyond IT (Concept burst)
5. 13:30–14:45 · First meeting with the budget owner (Role-play)
6. 14:45–15:30 · Delivery models in two minutes (Skill drill)
7. 15:45–16:45 · Why not build it in our GCC? (Case clinic)
8. 16:45–17:30 · What changes in my account (Reflection)

### Day 2: Pursue together, present, renew

Participants can run a pursuit as one team, deliver orals under pressure and plan renewals with delivery.

1. 09:30–10:00 · The fifteen-word win theme (Energiser)
2. 10:00–11:00 · Pursuit roles and rhythm (Group challenge)
3. 11:15–13:00 · Orals on camera (Simulation)
4. 13:45–14:45 · Joint account review (Real-play)
5. 14:45–15:30 · Spotting renewal risk early (Peer coaching)
6. 15:45–16:30 · My 90-day account growth plan (Action planning)
7. 16:30–17:00 · Commitments in the room (Feedback round)

Recommended: 2 days in person (day 1 09:30–17:30, day 2 09:30–17:00), or 5 × 3-hour live virtual sessions timed for India and onsite teams, plus a 90-day account follow-up. A sample design: every Bodhih program is customised after a short needs analysis.

### How long is IT services sales training?

The recommended design is two days in person followed by a 90-day account follow-up. It also runs as five live virtual sessions of three hours each, timed so onsite and offshore team members can join together.

### What activities are included in IT services sales training?

Participants map white space on a real account, research it with AI and check every claim, role-play a first meeting with a budget owner, explain delivery models in two minutes, rehearse filmed orals before a mock client panel and run a joint account review with delivery.

## How we deliver it

### Your live accounts

Participants bring a real account and a current pursuit, and every tool is applied to them in the room.

### Client panel rehearsals

Facilitators play CIO, CFO and procurement panels for orals practice, with filmed playback and scored feedback.

### Sales and delivery together

Mixed cohorts of client partners and delivery leads practise joint account reviews, so both sides leave with one plan.

### Spaced application

[Live virtual](https://bodhih.com/live-virtual-classes/) cohorts meet over several weeks, with an account task between sessions and peer review of each plan.

## Tailored versions

### For digital and product engineering firms

Cases cover engineering services sold to R&D and product heads, with orals that balance technical depth and business outcomes.

### For mid-size firms entering new markets

Extra time on opening accounts in the Middle East, Europe or APAC, local buying habits and winning a first reference client.

### Pursuit sprint for a live deal

A focused workshop for one pursuit team preparing for upcoming orals, rehearsing against the client's stated criteria.

## How we measure impact

Impact is tracked through the Evaluate stage of the ADDIE model. Before the program, participants take the AssessAll pre-assessment Account Planning & Expansion - Situational Judgement, and repeat it as a post-assessment, adding Value Articulation — Building the Buyer's Business Case where orals are a focus. Sales leaders hold manager check-ins using the account plans built in class. A 30-60-90 day follow-up reviews new stakeholder meetings, pursuit progress and renewal actions.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is IT services sales training?

IT services sales training is a program for client partners, account managers and pursuit teams who sell technology services to enterprises. It covers account mining, stakeholder mapping beyond IT, pursuit team roles, orals, explaining delivery models in business terms and working with delivery on renewals. Bodhih customises the cases to your service lines and markets.

### How do IT services companies grow existing accounts?

Most growth comes from accounts you already serve. Map where the client spends today, find white space in other business units or geographies, and build relationships with the business owners who fund new work. Then use delivery results as evidence. The program turns each step into an account plan that participants build for their own client.

### How is selling IT services different from selling SaaS?

SaaS sales usually sells a defined product on subscription. IT services sales sells people, expertise and outcomes, so trust, delivery credibility and the choice of delivery model matter more, and pursuits involve more stakeholders. Our SaaS sales training covers product selling, while this program focuses on services pursuits and account growth.

### How do you explain time and material versus fixed price to a client?

Frame it around risk and flexibility. Time and material gives the client control when scope is still moving, while fixed price gives cost certainty when scope is clear. Managed services shifts responsibility for agreed outcomes to the provider. Participants practise explaining each option in under two minutes, in plain business language a finance head would accept.

### How should IT services firms compete with a client's own GCC?

Treat the client's capability centre as a partner, not a rival to criticise. Understand what the client wants its centre to own, then show where your firm adds speed, specialist skills or flexible capacity. The program includes a case and role-play in which a client asks why they should not build the capability in-house.

### What makes a strong orals presentation in an IT services deal?

Strong orals open with the client's outcome, show a team that has clearly worked together and answer hard questions directly. Each presenter links their part to the same win theme. In the program, pursuit teams rehearse on camera in front of a mock client panel and get scored feedback before the real event.

### Can AI tools help IT services sales teams research accounts?

Yes, used with care. AI tools can summarise annual reports, news and job postings to suggest likely priorities and stakeholders. Every claim still needs checking against the source before it reaches a client. The program teaches a simple research routine and shows how to turn its output into sharper first-meeting questions.

### Is IT services sales training available online for global teams?

Yes. The live virtual version runs as five three-hour sessions timed for teams in India and onsite in the US, UK, Europe, Middle East or APAC. For in-person delivery, our master trainers travel from Bengaluru to your office in Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Noida or overseas.
