## Why business English matters more in hybrid, global work

Most Indian professionals are fluent in English, yet small habits still cause friction. Literal translations, over-formal emails, vague updates and phrases like 'do the needful' can confuse global colleagues.

Business English communication training closes that gap by working on the English your people actually use every day. Improvements show up in the next client call or email thread, not months later.

> Knowledge workers report spending about 88% of their workweek communicating across multiple channels.

## Sample training plan: 2-day hands-on design

This two-day workshop works on the English people actually use at work: stand-up updates, client calls, emails, chat and small talk. It starts with a recorded speaking and writing sample, so each participant knows their top three habits to change. They drill point-first updates, swap confusing Indian English phrases for neutral ones, practise interrupting and clarifying on a noisy call, rewrite their own emails and introduce themselves in 30 seconds. The capstone is a simulated day on a global account.

82% hands-on practice · 13.5 contact hours · Cohort: 10–18 participants · In person · Live virtual

### Day 2: English on calls, in writing and in small talk

Recommended: 2 days in person (09:30–17:30), or 6 × 2-hour live virtual sessions over three weeks, plus weekly micro-tasks for 60 days. A sample design: every Bodhih program is customised after a short needs analysis.

### How long is business English communication training?

The recommended design is two days in person, from 09:30 to 17:30, followed by 60 days of weekly micro-tasks. It also runs as six live virtual sessions of two hours over three weeks, which suits teams that work across time zones.

### What activities are included in business English communication training?

Participants start with a recorded voice note and pick three habits to change. They drill headline-first updates, play a phrase-swap card game, run a mock stand-up with an overseas product owner, handle a noisy client call, rewrite their own emails and finish with a simulated day on a global account.

## How we deliver it

### Real work as material

Participants bring their own emails, slides and call scenarios, so every exercise can be used the next working day.

### Record, replay, refine

Short recorded speaking drills let learners hear themselves and track progress, with trainer and peer feedback.

### Small practice groups

Breakout rooms and pair work mean everyone speaks often, including the quieter members of the group.

### Spaced micro-practice

Weekly micro-tasks between sessions turn new phrases and structures into habits rather than notes.

## Tailored versions

### For GCC and IT services teams

Built around stand-ups, sprint reviews, ticket comments and client escalations with US and European stakeholders.

### For BFSI and customer operations

Focused on precise, polite English for customer queries, compliance-sensitive emails and call handling.

### For graduate and campus hires

A foundation track that builds professional English habits during onboarding, alongside campus-to-corporate content.

## How we measure impact

Following the Evaluate stage of ADDIE, participants take a pre-program English proficiency baseline on AssessAll covering speaking, writing and comprehension, then repeat it when the program ends. Managers receive a short checklist of observable behaviours, such as structured updates and clearer emails, to use in 30-60-90 day check-ins. We also compare sample emails and recorded updates from before and after the program so the change is visible, not just reported.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between spoken English and business English?

Spoken English courses usually build general fluency and grammar. Business English communication training assumes basic fluency and focuses on workplace tasks such as updates, emails, meetings and client calls, where clarity, structure and tone matter as much as correctness. The goal is getting work done well in English, not just speaking it.

### How long does it take to improve business English?

Most professionals notice a difference within a few weeks when they practise on real tasks. Our recommended design is 2 days in person or 6 [live virtual](https://bodhih.com/live-virtual-classes/) sessions, followed by weekly micro-tasks. Habits such as structured updates and clearer emails change quickly, while deeper fluency keeps building with months of deliberate practice.

### Is online business English training effective?

Yes, when it is live, interactive and built around practice. Our live virtual sessions use small breakout groups, role-plays and recorded speaking drills, so participants speak often and receive specific feedback. For teams that already work on Teams or Zoom every day, practising online also mirrors how they really communicate.

### Will this program change my team's accent?

Accent change is not the aim of this program. We focus on intelligibility through pace, pausing, word stress and clear structure, so global colleagues understand your people easily. If a team needs deeper pronunciation work, we suggest pairing this program with our [voice and accent](https://bodhih.com/voice-and-accent-training/) training.

### How do you assess English levels before the training?

We can run a pre-program English proficiency assessment on AssessAll, Bodhih's AI assessment platform, covering speaking, writing and comprehension. The results help us group participants sensibly and aim the design at real gaps. Repeating the assessment afterwards gives you a clear before-and-after picture.

### Can the program be customised for our industry?

Yes. Every Bodhih program is designed with the ADDIE model, starting with an analysis of your teams, clients and typical communication tasks. We then build role-plays and examples from your context, whether that is software delivery, banking operations, healthcare or customer support.
