Your organisation has adopted agile ways of working, but many managers still plan in annual blocks and approve every decision themselves. Our agile leadership training helps them step back from command and control, set clear outcomes, clear the path for their teams and lead calmly when the plan keeps moving.

## Why agile stalls at the manager's desk

Teams learn new rituals quickly: the fortnightly review, the visible board, the short planning session. What changes slowly is the manager who still wants a status deck every Friday and quietly overrules the team's priorities. When leadership habits lag, [agile](https://bodhih.com/agile-scrum/) turns into extra meetings with the old hierarchy underneath.

In 2026 agile has moved well beyond software into banking operations, marketing, HR and GCC business services. That puts leaders with no delivery background in charge of teams that expect autonomy. Agile [leadership training](https://bodhih.com/leadership-skills-training-in-india/) gives them concrete behaviours to practise, so the new way of working survives the first difficult quarter.

## What participants will be able to do

### Lead with outcomes

Replace task lists with clear outcomes and guardrails so teams decide how to deliver.

Spot and remove the approvals, dependencies and policies that slow a team's flow of work.

### Plan in short cycles

Run fortnightly planning and review conversations that adjust priorities using evidence, not seniority.

### Stay steady in ambiguity

## Sample training plan: 2-day hands-on design

This two-day design moves managers from approving and directing to enabling. Participants lead a team through a business simulation whose brief changes halfway, map decision rights for their own team and rewrite task lists as outcomes with guardrails. They practise clearing impediments with a reluctant department head, run a retrospective that actually changes something and explain a pivot to a tired team. Each manager leaves with a decision-rights map and a 60-day experiment in handing over control.

80% hands-on practice · 13.5 contact hours · Cohort: 12–24 participants · In person · Live virtual

### Day 1: From control to enablement

Participants can see how their habits shape team speed, set outcomes with guardrails and hand real decisions to the team.

1. 09:30–10:00 · Build it my way (Energiser)
2. 10:00–11:00 · My week in approvals (Diagnostic)
3. 11:15–12:00 · What changes for the leader (Concept burst)
4. 12:00–13:00 · Outcomes, not task lists (Build sprint)
5. 13:45–14:45 · Who decides what (Build sprint)
6. 14:45–15:30 · Handing over the keys (Role-play)
7. 15:45–16:45 · The brief that keeps changing (Simulation)
8. 16:45–17:30 · First move on Monday (Reflection)

### Day 2: Flow, impediments and coaching

Participants can run short planning cycles, clear impediments, explain a pivot and coach a self-organising team.

1. 09:30–10:00 · Board detectives (Energiser)
2. 10:00–11:00 · Plan the fortnight (Skill drill)
3. 11:15–12:15 · Clearing the path (Role-play)
4. 12:15–13:15 · Explaining the pivot (Skill drill)
5. 14:00–15:00 · Retrospective that changes something (Demo & practice)
6. 15:00–15:45 · Asking, not telling (Peer coaching)
7. 16:00–17:00 · My 60-day leadership experiment (Action planning)
8. 17:00–17:30 · Commitments circle (Feedback round)

Recommended: 2 days in person (09:30–17:30), or 4 × 3-hour live virtual sessions over two to three weeks, plus a 60-day leadership experiment. A sample design: every Bodhih program is customised after a short needs analysis.

### How long is agile leadership training?

The recommended design is two full days in person, followed by a 60-day leadership experiment with peer circles and check-ins. It also runs as four live virtual sessions of three hours each over two to three weeks, with small tasks applied to each manager's own team between sessions.

### What activities are included in agile leadership training?

Managers audit a week of their own approvals, rewrite tasks as outcomes with guardrails, build a decision-rights map, lead a business simulation whose brief keeps changing, negotiate away an impediment, explain a pivot to a sceptical team and practise coaching through questions in a live retrospective.

## How we deliver it

### Learning in sprints

The workshop itself runs in short cycles with visible boards and quick reviews, so managers feel the rhythm they are asking their teams to adopt.

### Simulation with shifting priorities

Tables lead a team through a business simulation where the brief changes mid-way, then debrief what their leadership behaviour did to speed and morale.

### Live work, not textbook cases

Participants bring a real team, a real backlog and a real blocked decision, and apply each tool to them during the program.

### Leader and team together

An optional half-day brings each manager's team in to co-write decision rights and working agreements, turning intent into a shared commitment.

## Tailored versions

### For business functions new to agile

Banking operations, marketing, HR and finance leaders work with cases from their own world: campaign launches, loan processing queues and policy rollouts instead of software releases.

### For GCC and technology leaders

A deeper version for managers whose teams already run sprints, focused on dependencies across time zones, global stakeholders and stepping back from technical decisions.

### Senior sponsor briefing

A half-day for business heads sponsoring a transformation, covering what to stop asking for, how to fund teams and how to read progress.

## How we measure impact

Evaluation is planned at the start, following the Evaluate stage of ADDIE. Managers complete an AssessAll pre and post assessment on enabling leadership behaviours, and their teams answer a short pulse on autonomy, clarity and speed of decisions. Each participant runs a leadership experiment, such as handing over one recurring decision, reviewed in a 30-60-90 day follow-up. We review cycle time, escalations and team feedback with your transformation lead.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is agile leadership?

Agile leadership is a way of leading teams that work in short cycles and adapt as they learn. The leader sets clear outcomes and boundaries, hands decisions to the people closest to the work, removes obstacles and coaches rather than directs. It suits any team facing fast-changing priorities, not only software teams.

### How is an agile leader different from a traditional manager?

A traditional manager plans the work, assigns tasks and checks progress. An agile leader agrees the outcome, lets the team decide how to reach it and spends time clearing blockers and building capability. [Accountability](https://bodhih.com/accountability-at-work-training/) does not disappear. It shifts from controlling activity to owning results, priorities and the conditions that let the team move fast.

### Can agile ways of working succeed outside software teams?

Yes, when leaders adapt the practices rather than copy them. Marketing teams plan campaigns in short cycles, operations teams use visible boards to manage queues and HR teams pilot policies with small groups first. Our agile leadership training uses cases from business functions so non-technical managers see what agile looks like in their own daily work.

### How do managers support self-organising teams without losing control?

They agree three things up front: the outcome, the guardrails and who decides what. Inside those limits the team chooses its approach. The manager stays close through reviews and retrospectives rather than approvals. Participants build a decision-rights map for their own team during the program and practise handing over one decision they currently hold.

### What skills does an agile leader need?

Useful skills include setting outcomes, delegating decisions, prioritising a backlog, coaching through questions, running reviews and retrospectives, managing stakeholders and staying calm when plans change. Just as important is self-awareness: noticing when you slip back into rescuing or overruling the team. The program builds each skill with short practice rounds and peer feedback.

### Is this a certification course?

No. This is a leadership behaviour program, not an agile certification. It focuses on how managers think, decide and coach in agile teams. Many participants already know the team-level practices. If your organisation needs framework certification, this program complements it by addressing the leadership habits that often block adoption after the certificate.

### How long is the agile leadership training program?

The recommended design is two days in person or four three-hour [live virtual](https://bodhih.com/live-virtual-classes/) sessions, followed by a 60-day leadership experiment with check-ins. A half-day sponsor briefing can be added for senior leaders. We customise the final design after a short needs analysis with your transformation, HR and business leads.

### Can you deliver agile leadership training to teams across locations?

Yes. Bodhih has delivered more than 18,000 programs since 2008, across India, the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, Far East Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and Africa. Master trainers travel from Bengaluru for in-person cohorts, or we run live virtual sessions with breakout simulations for distributed teams.
